Medium Voltage Transformers

Square D offers a complete line of three phase liquid-filled transformers for commercial and industrial applications in both pad-mounted and substation style. The pad-mounted style is best suited for commercial applications in public access areas and where underground service is required. The substation style is ideal for industrial applications and can be stand alone or close-coupled to switchgear providing a complete substation line-up. Both styles are available in outdoor mineral oil design or high fire point fluids for indoor use.

HVL Consultants specify many different types of medium voltage transformers when designing data centers:

Liquid filled, cast primary cast secondary, cast primary vacuum pressure impregnated (VPI) (dry-type) secondary and VPI (dry-type) on primary and secondary. The objective to be met in the specifications depends on the installation location (indoor or outdoor) of the transformers, the emergency loading it may be subjected to (fan packages), and the life the data center manager expects from the transformer. Depending on the transformer design, and its loading or uses, the expected life can vary from 20 to 40 years.

Power DryTM

Square D Power-Dry II vacuum-pressure impregnated transformers are particularly suited for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications. This VPI process saturates the dielectric material, which contributes to its long life and durability. The secondary windings are constructed with sheet conductors and NOMEX® insulation.
