Automatic Transfer Systems Ensure Critical Loads Receive Reliable Power Required to Function May 23, 2009

A new educational video is now available at criticalpowernow.com – Automatic Transfer Systems: Part 1 discusses the role of an ATS in addressing reliability challenges in data centers and other critical power environments.

When properly designed and implemented, automatic transfer systems provide a vital function in reliable power system operation. Working in conjunction with alternate power sources and UPS’s, an ATS helps to ensure that critical system loads receive the reliable power they require to function.

"An important requirement of mission critical power systems is automatic operation. The rapid and reliable transfer of the system from one power source to another during certain system events is crucial to achieving your reliability goals for the system and the facility it serves," says Greg Wessels, Product Manager of Schneider Electric’s Data Center Solutions. "The role of the ATS is often considered less important than many other aspects of the overall power system design which compromises data center reliability."

Critical power experts from our Data Center Solutions team outline design considerations for automatic power transfer in mission critical environments and discuss how they can be implemented to ensure power system reliability.
